Christian Guzman on monetization:

When I had 18— no, not even— I had, like, 14 to 18k subscribers, I was confident in leaving school. I was ready to leave, because I was making about 30 to $40k a month.

Juan (videographer):

With 14,000 subs? What was it, what, ad revenue?

Christian:

That was strictly plans, bro. Coaching only.

Juan:

Oh, my gosh. So it had nothing to do with YouTube, specifically.

Christian:

There was no ads, there was no ad spend, there was no ad— like there was no none of that. It was strictly—

I was making YouTube videos, promoting people to go to my website, Christian Guzman Fitness dot com, or whatever it was — Christian Guzman Training — and either, or—

And back then, like, if my revenue, if it was, say, 30k in a month, I’d say like, 5 to $7,000 of that (about) was one-time plans. So I would still have to go in, probably spend about 30, 40 minutes creating a plan, right? And so that was that.

But then, the rest of that percent of revenue — so, $22k a month — was coming through, like, monthly-recurring, active clients…

…that’s hundreds of clients I was managing at like, 20. When I was in school.

Juan:

That’s insane. So what you were doing was, you were maximizing your small YouTube audience, and leveraging it towards your business.

Christian:

Yeah. Without even knowing I was doing it, yeah.

You don’t have to coach fitness clients like Christian did to understand the power of owning your own platform, and directing your fans there.

It’s a necessity if you ever hope to get off the upload hamster wheel and create on your own terms.
