Bryan Harris on what makes creator business owners special:
One thing— one question I’m having, real time, is: I’m wondering if part of the difficult part of creators building a team is caring about everything.
Like, being a hyper-perfectionist, so much so that you accidentally disempower the people you work with to the point where, like, ‘Everything’s gotta be done Brian’s way, so like, I don’t even know why I’m here.’
And, you kinda just accidentally strip— ’cause, like, they didn’t get into this to build a team, so it’s an abnormal path. They’re the face of the thing, typically, and they didn’t get into it to, like, grow a company.
They kind of found their self in that opportunity spot.
But, like, leadership training, or, you know, actually how to lead people, like, that’s just not there.
That’s maybe one of the more impressive things about MrBeast. Like, he started out as the dude — his face — and now he has what seems to be a super-legit operation, led really well, producing high quality stuff, all the time.
Like, that’s incredi— the videos are cool. But, like, the organizational and the growth of him that has to happen to make that happen consistently, over time — like, that’s by far more impressive. And rare, it seems to be.
The type of creator who is business-minded and flexible enough to make that shift — from creator-influencer to creator business owner — is, indeed, rare.
The fact that you’re this far down the page on a post about the business side of being a creator makes you weird.
Weird like Jimmy (MrBeast, mentioned in the clip). Weird like Max. Weird like Mai.
Platform owners are weird. (And intelligent enough to know what a good thing that is.)
