Jimmy’s advice is obviously coming from a good (and painful) place, but consumable products (CPG) can be learned by creators and mastered. Just ask Maxx.

If you’re a kind of creator that has no interest in understanding business and brand ownership — and see yourself still happily hustling to upload vids and hold viewer attention into your 30s, 40s, and 50s — by all means, stick to brand deals.

But if you know in your heart that, later in your life, you’ll

  • regret not having tried to impact the world with a cool product you’re thinking of, and
  • kind of wish you were sitting on (or selling) a 7-, 8-, or 9-figure brand…

…start launching products now.

You won’t be the first creator who ends up outgrowing brand deals and becoming the brand owner offering the deals.

That said, I agree that CPG can be obnoxiously tough to make successful, which is why I recommend creators consider starting in easier product categories.
