Ravi Abuvala talking with Ali Abdaal on letting go of your perfectionism when you have a team:

But, it’s like, you know, you feel like you could maybe even do the job better, or you could do it in half the time, where you’re like, ‘Well, why aren’t you guys doing this already? Like, we should already be doing this.’

And, I will say, myself, sometimes I just have zero ability to understand other peoples’ capacity. I’m just like, ‘Everybody works like me, right?’ And, ‘Everybody cares as much—’

And, so, I’m also unders— like, I also accept the fact that stuff is likely gonna be breaking, and it’s, likely, still gonna be—

Let’s say if I’m not involved in any of this other stuff — like coaching the business, or whatever else it is — let’s say it’s operating 20% less than it could if I was doing it— 30% less, right?

I have a strong belief that if I, instead, just doubled down to the stuff that I’m incredibly great at, that I could make it a higher increase of output than whatever the loss was over here.

And then, let’s say that you were able to get it— like someone — operation— general manager, or something like that — over to make that 30% gap 15%, so they cover by [15]%.

And then, anytime I’m like, ‘Okay, I still need to have my input in here,’ I just figure out what’s the most leveraged way to do this.

Whenever you get super-frustrated with your team, run this mental reality check:

Would you rather have

  • 70% of your ability multiplied by 3 members on your team, or just
  • 100% of your ability?

While you want your whole team to be 100-percent as excited about your art and business as you are, this is near impossible.

John D. Rockefeller understood that when he said,

  • “I would rather earn 1% off 100 people’s efforts than 100% of my own efforts.”

No one on your team is going to be as good as you at your stuff. But, together, they’re all better than you.
