Shae Manning talking with Meggie Honeycutt and Christina Muscari about why she does very little affiliate marketing:

Yeah, we’ve had some pretty big brand deals, so that’s another component of that.

I, personally, don’t get really into affiliate marketing, and I think that’s because — this will lead me to my next income source — is because I’m kind of promoting my own brand, and it’s just not something—

Christina:

Which is so smart — I love that. So smart.

Shae:

Yes! Yes! Once in a while I have a great product that I’ll use I’ll, like, Mane-ly Long, or whatever with my new horse. He has tons of hair. I’ve been using that product. so, sometimes I’ll do a little bit of a affiliate marketing  but it’s typically not my go-to.

But, I have another income source which started in October of 2023 — October 29th, to be precise — and, it is called The Spirited Horse Boutique.

So I have always wanted to have something else that’s generated as a business from my YouTube channel because — this is a little cynical-sounding — but at the end of the day, you don’t know.

You don’t own these platforms. They could be gone. Okay? So, that’s just the truth of it, and I’m trying to be smart about what I’m building up, and to CYA. If you don’t know what that means, look it up.

Of course, Shae Manning isn’t being the least bit cynical. The move to own something resulting from your audience reach as a creator is the only smart move to make.
