And, you know what’s kind of funny? I think this happened because I’m verified.
You see, one of Elon’s “improvements” to Twitter is making it annoyingly hard to change your username and profile pic if your account is verified.
Now, for the last 10 years I’ve been doing this tradition of changing my profile pic every day in October to fan submitted Photoshops. But, last October was the first year where I couldn’t really do it.
I could change it, like, every five days, but, that was it. And, my theory is that, on November 6, when I tried to change it back to normal, Twitter thought, ‘Ahh, you’ve been doing this too many times — you must be a bot’ — and locked me out.
So, a lot of good being verified does me.
And, no, I did not pay for this badge. This is a legacy verification badge given to my account. And, also, it’s useless since, you know, I can’t tweet anything.
But, in my opinion, not being able to tweet isn’t the worst thing about this.
It’s that I can’t DM any of my mutuals, but they can all still message me.
Since November 6 I’ve had some friends reach out and be like, ‘Hey, do you wanna grab lunch? I’m in town,’ or, ‘Do you wanna guest on my podcast?’
And, for a lot of these mutuals, Twitter is our only line of communication. So, very annoyingly, I can see everything being sent to me, but I have no way to message them back.
It really sucks. So, great work, Elon.
